React Native and Expo

Install from npm, run one command. Works in Expo Go.

@octokan/react-native is pure JavaScript, so Expo Go runs it with no native build.

1. Install

npm install @octokan/react-native

2. Run the setup command

npx @octokan/cli init app_xxxxxxxxxxxx https://YOUR-BACKEND

Your app key and backend URL are on the Install page of the dashboard. The command checks the key against your backend, saves it to app.json under expo.extra.octokan, and installs AsyncStorage (so conversations survive restarts), expo-constants (so the chat can read your key) and expo-image-picker (so people can send photos, with no separate install). In bare React Native it prints the one Octokan.configure line to add instead.

3. Add the chat

import { OctokanChatButton } from "@octokan/react-native";

<OctokanChatButton label="Chat with us" />

In Expo that is all: the chat configures itself from app.json the first time it opens. Stop the dev server and run npx expo start again after the setup command so Expo picks up the new app.json.

More control

import { Octokan, OctokanChatModal, OctokanChat } from "@octokan/react-native";

<OctokanChatModal visible={open} onClose={() => setOpen(false)} />
<OctokanChat />   // embed the screen yourself

Octokan.identify({ id: user.id, email: user.email, name: user.name });
Octokan.reset(); // on sign-out

Run it

Restart npx expo start (Expo only reads app.json when it starts), then scan the QR code with Expo Go. No Apple or Google developer account is needed. Your phone must reach the backend, so use the https URL of your Railway service.
